Joe Gomez will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the hamstring injury he suffered early on in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brighton in the Premier League.
Gomez was forced off after just 26 minutes on Saturday after pulling up, making way for the returning Mohamed Salah as Dominik Szoboszlai moved to right-back.
It came after a run of five consecutive appearances – his longest since December 2024 – and in his second start in five days having been preferred to Conor Bradley in the 1-0 win at Inter Milan.
But Liverpool could now be without their No. 2 for an extended period, with a scan booked in to assess the severity of Gomez’s injury.
While it is no definitive indicator of a serious issue, a player requiring a scan is certainly not positive news – particularly given his history of setbacks.

Gomez required surgery on his left hamstring in February, with a recurrence of an issue from December forcing him out for three months following his operation, but it is currently unclear if this new injury is in the same leg.
The defender can be expected to learn the results of his scan within the next week, with Arne Slot hoping it is not a long-term layoff.
“If I have a player who goes off with a muscle injury like Joe, that’s normally not a positive thing,” he told the club’s official website.
“I would not expect him to be in the squad next week. But sometimes you get a positive surprise.
“People now maybe understand a bit better why I was always so cautious not to play him so many games. I assume many people thought, ‘if you have a defender, if you have a right full-back, why don’t you play him?’.”
Of course, Slot’s decision to start Gomez over Bradley in midweek, knowing the latter was suspended against Brighton, could now be scrutinised.
But the head coach was running the same risk with the Northern Irishman, who has only recently returned from a muscle injury of his own and needs to be managed carefully.
Liverpool will see Jeremie Frimpong return to availability in the near future, and perhaps as early as the trip to Tottenham on December 20.
The Dutchman is set to rejoin full training in the buildup to Saturday’s clash and if fit could make the bench at the expense of Calvin Ramsay, who was in the Premier League squad for only the second time this season against Brighton.
