Liverpool picked up a big three points on Saturday afternoon as they beat Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League
Hugo Ekitike scored in each half with the Frenchman netting after just 46 seconds before putting away his second with a header from Mohamed Salah’s corner in the second half.
The change saw Szoboszlai moved to right-back. The Hungarian has played in the position for Liverpool on a number of occasions this season and stepped up again for Arne Slot. His performance was praised by Sutton, who said: “Another really big game for Liverpool from Szoboszlai. He had to play different roles and showed his versatility again this afternoon.”
Szoboszlai had 70 touches during the game and finished his afternoon with a pass completion of 92 per cent. He has been widely hailed as one of Liverpool’s best players this season.
The Reds star had to come off after 83 minutes amid an injury concern. Providing an update on his fitness, Slot said after the win: "And Dom, it was his ankle. It didn't look great when I just saw him. But he has unbelievable mentality so let's hope for the best.”
According to FotMob, Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player this season with an average rating of 7.42/10.
Earlier in the campaign, Szoboszlai was dubbed Liverpool’s best player this season by Jamie Carragher while he has also earned big praise from Stephen Warnock.
Speaking after the Reds’ beat Real Madrid 1-0 in early November, Warnock said: "Over recent weeks it has been a bit too easy to get at Liverpool's defence through their midfield, but it's almost as if they've had a meeting and the defenders have told the midfielders that they need to be protected more.
"Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch weren't great at the start of this season, but they have been really impressive in the past two games. They have to continue that form now.
"It's imperative you have those two on the pitch but when you add in Dominik Szoboszlai, wow! The energy he has, the recovery challenges he makes and the way he gets to the edge of the penalty area is so impressive.”
