Tony Cascarino has had enough after watching Everton crash to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

Goals from Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto were enough to dispatch David Moyes’ side, and the result sees them slip down to eighth in the Premier League table.

The Toffees have been fantastic this season, with their defence keeping six clean sheets and conceding 19 goals in their 16 games.

Everton are 12 points better off than at this stage last season, and Moyes is clearly building something promising in L4.

However, Everton could be much higher up the table if they had a clinical striker, and Thierno Barry and Beto have once again come under fire for their struggles in front of goal.

Barry’s struggles in front of goal and Beto’s inconsistency from close range have left Everton with the need to buy a new number nine.

Cascarino praised Barry for his work rate earlier in the campaign, and the French striker got his first goal for the Toffees in the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Against Chelsea, Barry was subbed off for Beto in the 68th minute, with neither striker managing a shot on goal yet again.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 14 December, Cascarino laid into Everton’s frontmen after what he had seen.

He said: “I’m watching Barry and Beto, who are similar in their goal records, and both of them have one league goal each.

“Barry is a young player, and there’s room for improvement, but they just aren’t good enough.

“Everton have quality players on the ball, but they urgently need a centre forward because they’re struggling. The two strikers are just so far short of what they need at the moment.”

Everton are searching for a striker to replace Beto, and several players have been touted for a move to L4 ahead of January.

Which strikers are Everton being linked with?

Bologna striker Santiago Castro is the favourite to join Everton, with the Argentinian likely to cost £31million.

Joshua Zirkzee and Evan Ferguson could make their way to Merseyside, with both players in search of more game time.

Gabriel Jesus is another name being floated around, although it seems incredibly unlikely Arsenal would let him go as they fight for the title.

With a move for Ivan Toney not possible, the Toffees are left with deals that could be tricky to complete, and it seems unclear if they are going to solve their ongoing problem in front of goal.
