Wolves put in a spirited performance away against the Premier League’s best team so far this season. Almost the perfect game plan from Rob Edwards, limiting the hosts chances throughout the game. Finally a performance to make supporters proud.

Sam Johnstone – 7

Put in a good performance, he was assertive coming for the ball and made a couple of very important saves pushing the ball wide with a strong hand. Very unlucky to concede the opening goal. Johnstone getting a fingertip to the ball pushing it onto the post only for the ball to come back off his arm and go in. Away from home against a top side all you can ask from the goalkeeper who did a good job to slow the game down.

Toti Gomes – 6

Solid defensive performance did well to help Wolfe double up against Saka but ultimately not enough against a quality opponent.

Emmanuel Agbadou – 6

Similar to Toti putting in a good defensive performance, shown by the fact Victor Gyokores only had four touches in the first half and was withdrawn on 81 minutes not having a sniff. Made a few poor passes out but did try to find Larsen and later Tolu.

Yerson Mosquera – 5

Very unfortunate for Mosquera who looked defeated tonight after conceding a late equaliser, was pulled around the most of any player in the back line but kept showing fight throughout.

Moller-Wolfe – 6

A great effort when faced up against one of the top three players in the league in Saka. Possibly was beaten too many times by the English international but clearly showed spirit and did try to offer himself as an outlet down the left when possible.

MATT Doherty – 6

Could see the experience shown from bringing Doherty back into the side. A very good performance playing at right wing back now, not his usual position at right centre back. Was only beaten once by Martinelli who was limited to very few chances.

Andre – 7

Great performance against a strong midfield of Eze, Rice and Zubimendi, was always close to play and followed his man.

Joao Gomes – 7 (Man of the Match)

Arguably the perfect game for both Andre and Gomes who were able to battle in an organised shape against most people’s champions. In the case of both of them, going forwards often can be a challenge but with the game plan for this evening this was two great midfielders to have available.

Ladislav Krejci – 6

Was the worst of the midfield three, offered very little but supported us to stay in shape and put a shift in for Edwards game plan.

Hwang – 6

A performance with lots of determination, effort and clear passion shown. In the first half had the best chance of the game with a tame effort straight at Raya. Clearly was getting frustrated as the ball was not sticking.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – 5

Mostly anonymous and struggled to hold the ball up, despite totally feeding off scraps. Did have a good opportunity in the first half but his effort was well blocked by Hincape.

The Subs:

Tchatchoua – 5 (on 69 mins)

Came off the bench and carried on the job Doherty had left, put in a couple of crosses to the back post missing almost everyone in the box however the ball was often recycled to maintain Wolves attacks.

Arokodare – 7 (on 69 mins)

Got the goal to give the fans hope of a good result, in a season where hope has been lacking. Did a good job otherwise pushing Wolves up the pitch and gave the Arsenal side something to think about.

Arias – 5 (on 80 mins)

Often recycled the ball, did not offer anything in an attacking sense to threaten the Arsenal defenders but did a good job keeping attacks alive for a limited time.

Fer Lopez – 6 (on 80 mins)

Threaded a great pass through to Arokodare shortly after coming on, added more forward thinking after a solid performance did a good job in the limited time against high quality opposition.

Matheus Mane – 7 (on 86 mins)

Wanted to receive the ball, whipped the ball in for Tolu to head home. Showed some quality with limited opportunities.

From my first Wolves match against Chelsea in 2003 I fell in love with the team and matchday experience. I work in digital marketing and have lived in Germany and Estonia over the past few years, this doesn’t stop me following Wolves and ensuring all my international friends become invested to the Wolf pack. I enjoy football, board games, a pint and travelling always excited to try new things. You will find me in the north bank on a matchday.
