Paul Merson wanted to see Estevao Willian earlier

Chelsea’s rising star Estevao Willian was left on the bench for Everton’s visit to Stamford Bridge.

The winger was eventually brought on, replacing Joao Pedro in the 81st minute. However, Merson wanted to see him much sooner.

Discussing the Brazilian in the second half, Merson said on Sky Sports: “It’s disappointing that Estevao hasn’t come on, but Chelsea are comfortable.”

Again, in the end, Merson got his wish when Estevao was introduced inside the final 10 minutes of the match. It was not enough time for the 18-year-old to make any kind of real impact on the game, though.

Maresca will be pleased with his overall contribution this season. Estevao already has three goals in five Champions League outings, which is really impressive for someone his age.

No need for Enzo Maresca to bring Estevao Willian on

Chelsea went into half-time with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto.

They were in a very comfortable position and attacked well against David Moyes’ side, so turning to Estevao early in the second half was not necessary.

Games are also coming thick and fast, with Chelsea playing again on Tuesday. They face Cardiff City in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, so Maresca may want Estevao to start in that fixture.

People are going to want to see entertainers like Estevao and Palmer playing every week. But Maresca will continue to rotate his team, especially after all of the injuries Chelsea have had this season.
