The Frenchman may have just provided an insight on the winger’s future.
Liverpool continue to re-build momentum as they beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds have now gone five games unbeaten in all competitions, as Arne Slot continues to tinker with the system and navigate through this tricky period.
Now what we all want to see is consistency, and only time will tell whether Slot has now found his new system to put us back into contention for silverware this season.
The headlines before the Brighton game were understandably dominated by Mohamed Salah as it was confirmed that the Egyptian would make his return to the squad after sitting out Liverpool’s trip to Inter Milan in mid-week.
Salah’s exclusion came as a result of his damaging comments about Slot and the club after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United last Saturday.
The winger returned to the squad but did not start the game.
However, he is introduced into the game earlier than expected after Joe Gomez went off injured in the 26th minute, with Dominik Szoboszlai shifting to right-back.
Salah put in a good performance, being at the heart of everything Liverpool did well against Brighton.
During his Elland Road rant, Mo Salah left the door open to a potentially shocking January exit.
Now that the winger has departed for AFCON, many will be wondering whether that really was his last game for Liverpool.
Speaking to Canal+ after the game, Ibrahima Konate was asked whether he believed that was Salah’s Anfield farewell, to which the defender gave a wry smile and said:
“Personally, no, I don’t think so. Today you saw how much he loves this club.”
“What happened with him, you have to understand the frustration sometimes felt by players who have such a career, who have done so much.”
“He is a player that everyone loves, the coach loves, he loves the coach, everyone loves each other at this club.”
Mohamed Salah is yet to retract his words from that interview, but clearing the air between himself and Arne Slot may convince him to see out the remainder of his two-year contract extension that he only signed back in April of this year.
