New York Knicks forward Guerschon Yabusele spoke about his challenging start to the season, saying he’s trying to stay ready despite the difficulties.
After an impressive comeback season in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers last year, French forward Guerschon Yabusele hasn’t found his footing with the New York Knicks this season.
Ahead of the NBA Cup semifinal, which the Knicks won 132-120 against the Orlando Magic, he spoke to AFP and Basket USA, opening up about his tough start with the team and saying he’s trying to stay ready despite the challenges.
“I try to be ready when my name is called, I try to prepare every day to be the best I can with the minutes I get, and I try to control the impact I have on the court above all,” Yabusele said via Ouest France.
“I won’t lie to you, it’s very difficult. I’m a competitor above all else, and this is not the situation I thought I’d be in when I arrived here,” he added.
Yabusele has spent a fair amount of time filling in at the center position this season, though he says that’s not the reason he’s struggling, as he played the five last season as well.
“Last year, I spent most of the season playing the five, so it’s not too complicated for me,” he said.
“I try not to overthink it and to stay positive every day,” he concluded, while highlighting the “good, comforting atmosphere” in the Knicks’ locker room, as the team now prepares for the NBA Cup Final against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
