Cash-strapped Exeter City were in need of a boost – and an FA Cup third round draw at Manchester City has provided it.
The Grecians’ financial difficulties were exacerbated when a fire at their St James Park home last month meant they had to crowdfund £100,000 to fix the damage in order to get last week’s second round tie against Wycombe played.
All the efforts paid off as Gary Caldwell’s side ran out 4-0 victors to earn their place in the hat - and then they pulled out a plum tie against Pep Guardiola’s star-studded side.
