Marc Cucurella says Chelsea have a player he knew was amazing after just one training session

Marc Cucurella has been one of the biggest success stories at Chelsea since Enzo Maresca took over as the manager of the club.

The Spaniard is one of the first names on the teamsheet, making it difficult for new signing Jorrel Hato to earn meaningful minutes in the left-back position.

Cucurella has been rewarded with a new contract at the club in recent weeks, with this being a luxury offered to the better players at the club.

Marc Cucurella knew Moises Caicedo would be a star after one training session

Cucurella first featured alongside Caicedo when the pair were at Brighton, and has recalled knowing very quickly that he was going to be a star.

He told ‘CFC Unlocked‘ that he knew of his talents from the very first time they trained together.

He said: “Yes so I remember because when I arrived to Brighton he was on loan, I think in Belgium or something like this, but he didn’t play too much and we had the same English teacher.

“So when I do the lessons with the English teacher, he explained to me that he did the lessons with one player who is on loan from Brighton who is very good player.

“Then I remember he come back in January and we play. We start training together and this is when he played his first game yeah, he was very good.

“I think he was very young, but you can see that he have some different skills, like his tackling, how his brain works very fast, how he always can find the spare man and. I always love this style.”

Caicedo ready to make an impact at Chelsea again

The last three Premier League games have seen Chelsea go into battle without Caicedo, and until facing Everton they had not won either of their previous efforts.

Chelsea’s last game against Cardiff was back in 2019

There may be a silver lining to the Ecuador international being banned for the prior matches. Caicedo has been struggling with his fitness due to how much the club rely on him.

The timing could not be better as well, with it looking like Enzo Fernandez needs a break in the coming weeks after his own lengthy run in the side.

The World Cup winner is starting to look fatigued, and Caicedo’s return will allow him opportunity for a much-needed rest.
