'Fight he cannot win' - Enzo Maresca has 'gone all Jake Paul' with cryptic revelation

Enzo Maresca has been compared to Jake Paul after his cryptic post-match comments.

The Chelsea manager claimed 'many people didn't support us' in a shocking moment after his side beat Everton on Saturday.

The surprise outburst came just four days after the Blues were beaten by Atalanta in the Champions League.

Their defeat in Italy had extended the club's winless run to four matches after a difficult run of results.

During that period, Chelsea had also been beaten by Leeds and also drawn against Arsenal and Bournemouth.

However, goals from Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto were enough to see off the Toffees at Stamford Bridge.

However, Maresca's press conference remarks quickly became the major talking point.

The Italian told reporters: "Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst because many people didn't support us."

When asked if the comments were aimed at anyone at the club, he clarified that he meant 'in general' and also stressed that he was very happy with the support offered by Chelsea fans.

Perry Groves believes Maresca is picking a battle which he cannot win, though.

The former Arsenal winger told talkSPORT: "It's not really opaque because of the way that he worded it and, let's be honest, it was premeditated because he's the one who brought the subject up.

"So he's gone all Jake Paul. He's picking a fight that he can't win because as you just said there is the business model. He knew what he was getting into when he came to Chelsea.

"Now if it's the fact that players are coming in that he doesn't have the final say over. He probably knew that anyway, you know with the younger players coming in.

"But if there is interference with the players that he has to play or the team that he has to pick, that's when the manager has no control on what goes on on the pitch.

"So he hasn't alluded to it. You haven't got to be a rocket scientist to work it out."

Maresca has been in charge of Chelsea since last summer, with his current contract not set to expire until 2029.

His debut season saw the Blues finish fourth in the Premier League as well as winning both the Conference League and Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, they are currently in the same league position following their victory over Everton.
