Pat Nevin explains why Leeds United's late point against Brentford will have 'hurt' Everton fans

Leeds United have gone three games unbeaten after securing a late point against Brentford on Sunday night, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring his fourth goal in four games.

Calvert-Lewin has become the third Englishman to score in four consecutive Premier League games for Leeds. Rod Wallace and Michael Bridges are the only other Leeds players to have done so for the club.

After tap-ins against Man City and Chelsea and a penalty in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool, Calvert-Lewin scored the best of his run of four goals with a stunning leap to meet Willy Gnonto’s cross late on.

A gorgeous goal that finally sees Calvert-Lewin lead the charts for Leeds, with five goals. Chris Sutton suggested Calvert-Lewin could be called up for England, and the clamour is only going to grow, now.

Pat Nevin explains why Everton fans will be ‘hurt’ watching Leeds

Calvert-Lewin left Everton after nine years in the summer. The 11-time England international turned down Newcastle, Man United and Milan to join Leeds, as well as ignoring a huge cash offer from Fenerbahce.

Everton made little attempt in trying to keep Calvert-Lewin and while they may have preferred to, it was clear that Calvert-Lewin needed a fresh start. Well, he is certainly impressing for Leeds in recent games.

During his commentary on BBC 5 Live, former Scotland star Pat Nevin claims Everton fans will have been “hurt” watching Calvert-Lewin score again for Leeds, while their strikers struggle in front of goal.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin – it still hurts Everton fans that he’s not there anymore but give him those sort of crosses and there are not many better in the Premier League to put them away,” Nevin said on BBC 5L.

Who has been Leeds’ best summer signing, out of the 10?

Leeds made 10 summer signings, and as things stand, seven of those are key players. Lucas Perri, Jaka Bijol, Gabi Gudmundsson, Anton Stach and Calvert-Lewin start regularly for Daniel Farke’s Leeds.

Sean Longstaff and Lukas Nmecha probably would, if not for injury and if Nmecha was fit, he would have started over Noah Okafor. Sebastiaan Bornauw and James Justin are waiting to get a proper run in the XI.

But of the 10, Gudmundsson and Longstaff are likely to be up there, while Stach proved once again on Sunday that his transfer fee is good value. But on a free, Calvert-Lewin is surely one of the best signings.

It is incredibly hard to sign a striker that can score consistently in the Premier League and while his goals have included tap-ins and penalties, he is getting in the right positions. His header was sensational.
