Chelsea 2-0 Everton, Player Ratings: Muy Bueno Gusto

Not only was this Gusto’s first player ratings podium finish of the season, it is his first Man of the Match under Enzo Maresca. That’s a bit surprising, given Maresca’s propensity for shoehorning Gusto into the lineup at just about any position other than goalkeeper, but the (still very) young right back (at least in name), has not quite been able to build on that promising debut season under Mauricio Pochettino. He’s been in a good form over the past few weeks however, making impactful plays in both attack and defense, so hopefully he’s getting back into that groove.

Chelsea have given up one (1) goal in Fofana’s last six (6) starts, and that one goal was scored by Arsenal, with a man advantage. Incidentally, that goal exploited Fofana’s one major weakness: losing track of a striker off his back shoulder. But we can work on that.

Wes’s other major weakness has been his injury record. That we can do less about, though he’s been managed quite carefully this season, and that’s paid dividends (see also: Reece James).

Trev just beats out a returning Cole Palmer for third spot, having formed a solid partnership with Wes at the back. Maresca sure likes to chop and change his defense, perhaps to a fault especially when it’s done in the middle of a game, but this combination is a winning one at the moment, and he’s recognized that as well.
