Arsenal could be without five players for the Premier League clash against Everton on Saturday night.
The Gunners returned to winning ways in the league with a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.
They were far from their best and got out of jail after two own goals from Sam Johnstone and Yerson Mosquera, both created from quality crosses by Bukayo Saka.
Saka was Arsenal’s best player by a long stretch. Aside from his goal involvements, he won 11 out of 11 duels contested alongside four dribbles and a couple of recoveries.
Despite the last-gasp victory, there was some disappointment on the injury front.
Ben White sustained a hamstring injury in the process of chasing back Hwang Hee-chan, who was through on goal in the opening half. He pulled up midway through his run.
Speaking after the 2-1 win, Arteta confirmed ‘bad news’ on the £50 million signing and added that the extent of the setback will be examined by the club over the next 24 to 48 hours.
He told Arsenal.com: “Exactly that, obviously he hasn’t played a lot of minutes because of the previous knee issue that he had, then the moment he started to get some momentum he had to play a lot because we didn’t have any other solution.
“We had to even risk Wilo today because probably it wasn’t their best call to play 90 minutes because we were buying tickets for another injury, but we don’t have anybody else, but yeah that’s bad news for sure.
“It looks like a hamstring [injury], so we don’t know the extent of that, but probably tomorrow or the day after we’ll know more.”
White looks poised to be sidelined for some period of time after his muscle injury. Alongside him, the Gunners will be without four more players for the league encounter at Everton.
Gabriel Magalhaes (thigh) and Cristhian Mosquera (ankle) are sidelined for several weeks. The same is the case with Kai Havertz (knee). Max Dowman (ankle) is out for a couple of months.
However, Arsenal will welcome back Riccardo Calafiori for the trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, having served a one-game suspension after accumulating five yellow cards in the league.
The Gunners are presently two points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table. They drew both games against the Toffees last term and must pick up a victory this time around.
