LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The inaugural NBA Total Health Fair, presented by Evernorth Health Services, took place at the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA on Sunday, providing no-cost [health screenings](https://news3lv.com/news/local/clark-county-teachers-benefit-from-free-health-fair-offering-screenings-and-vaccinations) and groceries to the Las Vegas community during the Emirates NBA Cup.
With nearly one in six Southern Nevadans facing food insecurity and about half of Nevadans behind on recommended cancer screenings, the event aimed to offer immediate resources and preventive care.
NBA legends Spencer Haywood and Gary Payton attended the fair, which was held in collaboration with the Nevada Cancer Coalition, the Prevent Cancer Foundation, Goodr, Movember, NMDP, the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, and local medical providers.
Kathy Behrens is the President of Social Responsibility and Player Programs for the NBA.
Behrens says, "We're here in Las Vegas obviously to celebrate the game of basketball, but everywhere we go the NBA is also focused on what can we do to give back to the community. We got lots of screens... we've also got a fantastic grocery pop-up."
The fair supported more than 1,000 local families, featuring no-cost health screenings, a pop-up farmer’s market with over a week's supply of fresh food, a barbershop activation with complimentary haircuts and mental health discussions.
Attendees at a recent event had the opportunity to join the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry as blood stem cell donors.
The process involved a simple cheek swab, allowing participants to potentially save lives by becoming part of the registry.
Resources were available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This event is part of the ongoing collaboration between the NBA and YMCAs nationwide, celebrating Y-USA's 175th anniversary.
