Jamie Carragher says Everton have been left ‘red faced’ over Leeds United star

During the summer, Leeds United boss Daniel Farke made some bold decisions when it came to the squad. The Whites were preparing for their return to the top flight after a few seasons away.

The club had planned their recruitment meticulously, and it showed as they prioritised recruiting defensive players first before identifying attacking targets. At the same time, Farke was keeping an eye on which players would make the step up to the Premier League. When a team is promoted, not every player is quality and deserves to play at the top level.

This summer saw Patrick Bamford left out of the team’s plans, with the striker eventually parting ways with the club. He is now with Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United side in the Championship.

Jamie Carragher thinks Everton made a mistake with Leeds United man

A similar incident in the Premier League took place when Everton decided not to renew Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract. The decision sparked some uproar among Toffees fans, with some disliking the decision. Leeds United took the chance to sign the English striker, and Jamie Carragher says it was one of the best decisions they made this summer:

“I think Everton will be rueing letting Calvert-Lewin leave, yeah. Listen, I can understand it from both parties’ point of view.” Carragher said, speaking on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday show.

“His new deal (offered at Everton) was probably less money, having missed so many games through injury.”

“But I have absolutely no doubt about it, Calvert-Lewin is a better centre-forward than what Everton have right now.”

Presenter Rob Jones also chimed in: “I think Calvert-Lewin is a better striker than what most of the teams down in the relegation battle have.”

Daniel Farke made the right choice

Since the 28-year-old striker joined the club, Farke has been one of his biggest supporters. The Leeds boss always says the quality Calvert-Lewin brings to the club is something most of the current players do not have.

Even when the England man was struggling for goals and form, Farke stuck with him, and that decision seems to be paying huge dividends. If Calvert-Lewin can continue this form in front of goal as the season goes on, then Leeds have a massive chance of clinching survival at the end of the campaign.
