The latest Arsenal injury news and likely return dates ahead of their Premier League match against Everton.
Arsenal may have escaped from a home game against relegation-threatened Wolves with three points, but their victory came at a cost, with defender Ben White added to the list of injury concerns heading into their forthcoming Premier League match against Everton.
While there was plenty of good news on the fitness front this weekend, with Declan Rice, William Saliba, Leandro Trossard and Jurriën Timber all emerging unscathed having been injury doubts prior to the Wolves game, White is now one of five first-team players who could be unavailable for the trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.
In the build-up to the match against Everton, we’ve collected all of the latest Arsenal injury news below along with the stricken players’ expected return dates when available.
How bad is Ben White’s injury for Arsenal?
Ben White, who was start at right-back this weekend, pulled up with a muscular injury half an hour into the eventual 2-1 win over Wolves and had to be replaced by Myles Lewis-Skelly – and head coach Mikel Arteta’s post-match update was not encouraging.
“It is bad news, for sure. It looks like a hamstring, so we don’t know the extent of that, but probably tomorrow, or the day after we will know more.”
Given his track record of offering precious little clarity about injuries in the build-up to matches, it seems likely that we will only learn more about White’s injury before the Everton match if it is serious to sideline him for a significant period of time, but there is no set return date for the former Leeds United man as yet.
Another player with a fresh injury to handle is teenage forward Max Dowman, who suffered ankle ligament damage last weekend and is expected to miss around two months of football, per David Ornstein. The England Under-19 international will spend his 16th birthday on New Year’s Eve on the sidelines, but will at least avoid the need for surgery. He will return in early-mid February.
When will Gabriel, Kai Havertz & Cristhian Mosquera be back?
As well as Dowman and perhaps White, Arsenal will also have to make do without Gabriel Magalhães (groin) and Cristhian Mosquera (ankle), with both players targeting a return shortly after Christmas – Arteta has simply told the media that they are “weeks” away from returning without giving a precise date, but early January is reportedly the worst-case scenario for either player barring further setbacks. Riccardo Calafiori will, at least, return from, suspension this weekend.
Kai Havertz is also expected to miss out against Everton as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. Having originally been slated for a late November return, the German forward suffered a setback and remains a “matter of weeks” away from fitness, according to Arteta. A precise return date is unclear, but as with Gabriel and Mosquera he is likely to be back shortly after Christmas.
While that likely leaves Arteta five players down for the Everton game, there are at least no indications that any of the other recent injury victims endured any issues during the win over Wolves – Rice, Timber and Saliba all played the full 90 minutes and Trossard came off the bench in the second half. All should be able to start against Everton as it stands.
