Bukayo Saka was thinking ahead to Arsenal’s game against Everton as soon as the final whistle blew on his side’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Gunners laboured to a late win over the team propping up the Premier League table - one that only arrived courtesy of two own goals, the second in stoppage time.

It was an escape from a result that would have seen their lead at the top shrink even further after Aston Villa had ended Arsenal’s 18-match unbeaten streak seven days earlier.

It did also mark the end of a gruelling set of fixtures, however, with the home tie with Wolves the London club’s seventh game in 21 days. They now have a full week to rest and recuperate and Saka said their attention would shift to their first visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium immediately.

The England winger said: “It’s been a really, really busy schedule. Credit to all the boys and the staff because we’ve been so intense, but we’ve been on it and we’ve had some amazing results.

“It’s nice that we have a bit of a break, but it’s not time to relax, it’s just a time to reset a bit and then go again next week in the training sessions and be ready for Everton.”

The Blues will host Arsenal in an 8pm kick-off next Saturday, the game having been moved from its Sunday afternoon slot to allow greater time for Arsenal to prepare for their Carabao Cup quarter final with Crystal Palace the following Tuesday. The match will be the first in which Blues supporter organisation the 1878s put on a spectacle in the stands of the new stadium before kick-off.

David Moyes will approach the match without several key players but will take heart from Arsenal struggle against winless Wolves. The game was level heading into the final seconds of injury time only for Yerson Mosquera to spare their blushes.

Saka said the coming days will be about ensuring Arsenal “move forward” from a tough afternoon. He said: “It was an amazing feeling to win in the last minute. It’s been us that have conceded in the last minute on a few occasions this season, so it’s nice that we’re on the other side of it.

“That shows the character that we have and that we’re not going to give up. Also, we’re at the Emirates and we need to make teams understand that coming here is going to be tough. We’ve shown that this season and we have now showed that again.

“Obviously I’m happy with the three points but a bit disappointed with how we played and how the outcome was almost us dropping points, but we didn’t, so let’s take the points and move forward.”
