The public gallery at Liverpool Crown Court was left in shock as dashcam footage showed the moment Paul Doyle drove his car through crowds celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League title.

Opening the footage, prosecutor Mr Greaney said it came from a camera inside Doyle’s vehicle and recorded both audio and video. He told the court it showed the defendant’s driving just before he encountered traffic cones on Dale Street, describing what followed as the most serious part of his conduct.

The footage showed Doyle navigating through thick crowds, with people stepping aside to let his car pass. Members of the crowd were seen striking the vehicle in protest, but Doyle responded by speeding up and sounding his horn.

Children were visible running out of the car’s path. Doyle could be heard shouting abuse from inside the vehicle as he continued forward. After stopping briefly at traffic cones, further shouting was heard, both from Doyle and from members of the crowd.

The dashcam then captured Doyle reversing slightly before accelerating towards Water Street, where his car struck a pedestrian who rolled across the bonnet. Several people were knocked to the ground as the car continued moving.

A child was thrown to the floor, and a woman appeared to be trapped under the front of the vehicle as it moved forward. Doyle continued shouting at people to get out of the way.

The court heard the footage was too graphic to be released publicly.

Doyle, 54, admitted 31 offences last month after driving into crowds during the celebrations in Liverpool city centre. More than 100 people were injured, with 50 requiring hospital treatment.

Sentencing is due to take place today and tomorrow. Judge Andrew Menary KC has previously told Doyle a custodial sentence was inevitable.
