Simon Jordan fears for Enzo Maresca at Chelsea should he continue with criticism of Stamford Bridge colleagues.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca struggled to celebrate a 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday afternoon due to the ‘worst 48 hours’ since he arrived at Stamford Bridge.

The 45-year-old was cryptic as he spoke to the press at the weekend. Despite the victory over the Toffees lifting the Blues to fourth in the Premier League table, Maresca was downtrodden after the match.

Chelsea had been without a win since the 3-0 triumph over Barcelona prior to Saturday, drawing with Arsenal and AFC Bournemouth in the league alongside a defeat to Leeds United. There was also a 2-1 loss to Atalanta in the Champions League last week.

Enzo Maresca on ‘worst 48 hours’ after Everton victory

After the Everton match, Maresca said: "The last 48 hours has been the worst since I joined the club because many people didn't support me and the team.”

The Chelsea manager went on to add that the lack of support was ‘in general’ but that he was not venting frustration with the supporters. That outburst was discussed by former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan on talkSPORT this morning.

Jordan, who shared what he has heard from Chelsea, labelled Maresca’s words as ‘immature’. He said: “He’s either talking about the media - which he isn’t - or the people he’s working for. People that run football clubs are commercially different people than the people that manage them. There’s an emotional immaturity sometimes about football managers. They’ll go into press conferences and say things that are emotionally charged. It’s an emotional game.

“It’s an unwise move. If, to some extent, he’s digging at certain people who have been telling him to do certain things. There’s a school of thought, that I am led to believe, that there are differing agendas about what this team should be capable of doing and who should be playing.

“If he’s been caught in a position of differing agendas, I think he’s got a fair point - ‘if you want to win things, you’ve got to give me experienced players alongside young players’. If he’s got these views, he’s not well served in putting them in the public domain. I don’t think there’s a bigger job for Enzo Maresca than Chelsea.”

Simon Jordan slams Enzo Maresca tirade

Jordan didn’t go quite as far as to predict a sacking for Maresca but did admit that, should he continue with such tirades, such a conclusion would be inevitable. He added: “That won’t end well. You cannot rebuke and admonish your owners and people that you work for in the public domain.

“You can go to them in person and have an up and down with somebody. You cannot take that in the public domain because there is going to be one outcome.”

Maresca is due to speak to the press again on Monday lunchtime ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter final at Cardiff City on Tuesday night. The Blues are back in Premier League action at Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime.
