Liverpool FC have shown their willingness to invest in future talent over the past season
In July, the Reds beat Arsenal to the signature of 17-year-old striker Will Wright from Salford City, with the prolific forward – who netted over 50 goals across various age groups last season – undergoing his medical after Liverpool matched Arsenal’s wage offer at the eleventh hour. The deal represented a significant coup, with Wright joining the club’s U21 setup under Rob Page with the expectation of fast-tracked development.
Celtic’s 15-year-old centre-back Dara Jikiemi, who captains Scotland’s U15 side and is already performing three years above his age group in Glasgow, is also close to a move to Anfield.
Celtic will receive training compensation once Jikiemi turns 16 in January, with Liverpool reportedly fending off strong interest from Nottingham Forest.
However, there will naturally also be academy exits, with Reds winger Kai Morrall now seemingly confirming his exit.
Taking to Instagram, the 15-year-old announced that he is leaving Liverpool:
“After 8 years at Liverpool, it is time for me to say goodbye. I would like to thank all the staff and the coaches that helped me develop into a better player and a person. I will miss the memories and friends I made along the way however, I am looking forward to starting a new chapter and hopefully more things to come”
It has been widely reported that Morrall will join Leeds United now that he has departed Liverpool. He joined the Reds progressed through the age groups. He was viewed positively within the club and trusted with playing with the u16’s despite being a year younger.
He is also an u15 international for the Republic of Ireland.
