Dominic Calvert-Lewin takes swipe at Everton when discussing Leeds United fans

When the summer arrived, everyone at Leeds United knew that a new striker would arrive. There were reportedly doubts about Joel Piroe and his ability to translate to top flight football, despite the Dutchman winning the golden boot in the Championship.

At the start of the transfer window, many big names were linked, with the Whites even sending a bid for Fulham star Rodrigo Muniz. A whole host of talents were linked with a move to Elland Road. It took close to the transfer deadline for Leeds to announce the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

His signing came as a surprise to many fans, with their reactions seemingly very mixed. Many thought he was past it, and his injury worries always seemed like a concern. Despite all that, Daniel Farke was one of the people at the club to give the England man his full backing.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin says he experienced something at Leeds United that he never experienced at Everton

The striker had to be bedded into the first team slowly, gaining fitness with his first few appearances. Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal against Wolves in September and then went on a long drought. He has since flipped the script, with four goals in his last four games. The 28-year old credits some of that form to the Elland Road crowd, saying that he never experienced this kind of atmosphere at Everton:

“You have to use the crowd at Elland Road in your favour. Me as a new Leeds player experiencing that atmosphere has been incredible.” he said speaking to Sky Sports.

“They travel away in huge numbers too. It is an unbelievable fanbase and you definitely feel that as players. It is something I have never experienced before.

“The away teams that come to Elland Road, they are going to find it tough because they have got us to play and we have the fans behind us – it is a hostile place to come and play.”

Striker is delivering what Leeds signed him for

Early in the season, when he was in his goal drought, Farke defended him saying that his overall game helped the team. It rubbed fans the wrong way, and rightly so. Since the striker has started finding the back of the net again, fans are fully behind him.

If he can keep up this goalscoring run, then the Whites stand a chance for survival this year.
