Crystal Palace have set their sights on Man City winger Oscar Bobb as they aim to strengthen out wide ahead of the January transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that a move to Crystal Palace to play under Oliver Glasner would be “perfect” for Bobb.

Man City are prepared to let the 22-year-old leave in January, with a loan considered most likely although a permanent departure has not been ruled out.

However, there are reservations on Palace’s side about whether the talented wide-man would suit Glasner’s system given his education under Pep Guardiola.

The Eagles will assess the pros and cons before making a move, and have a number of other targets in mind should they opt to look elsewhere.

Crystal Palace weighing up move to sign Oscar Bobb

Brown first told Football Insider in June that Crystal Palace were interested in signing Bobb on loan following his return to full fitness at the Etihad.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the Man City gem remains a strong option for the Eagles in January.

“*Oscar Bobb is a very talented player, that’s obvious,*” he told Football Insider.

“So it’s no surprise when you hear there is interest from a team like Crystal Palace, where they’ve got a reputation for developing young talents into better players.

“In that respect it might be a perfect move for him and for Palace.

“The worry a lot of clubs have with City academy products is, once you take them out of City, things don’t quite click for them in a different system and style.

“They’re all very technical players, very good on the ball, and they thrive with technical players around them.

“Crystal Palace’s side is built on players who work hard for the team and put in the effort for their teammates, now does Bobb fit into that style?

“He may well do, but that’s something Palace have to assess, because playing in that Palace side is different to playing under Pep Guardiola.

“They’ve been keeping tabs on him and he’s certainty somebody they’re interested in, because I believe Man City would be willing to let him go.

“It’s just about whether he stands out among the other targets they’ve looked at.”

Crystal Palace set sights on Brennan Johnson

Football Insider last month that Crystal Palace are planning to back Glasner by adding to his squad as they eye another successful season.

Tottenham star Brennan Johnson has emerged among their alternative options to Bobb, and his potential availability at Spurs has put Palace on alert.

Brown told Football Insider on 14 December that Tottenham are bracing for offers for Johnson and could allow him to move on in January.

The Wales international has featured 19 times under Thomas Frank, with 10 of those appearances coming from the start, but questions linger about his long-term role.

Frank is believed to prefer other names in Johnson’s position, while the potential returns of both Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski could push him down the pecking order.
