Chelsea fans in the firing line as Cardiff star aims to pile more misery on the Blues

Chelsea are the heavy favourites to book their place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup when they take on Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

Despite the magnitude of a quarter-final tie, the Blues are expected to rotate heavily for the upcoming fixture.

It has already been confirmed that Cole Palmer will not start for the Blues, and it is likely that Wesley Fofana will also be on the bench, or even out of the first team side completely.

Chelsea loanee Omari Kellyman will not be allowed to take part for Cardiff, however there will be a familiar face to some Chelsea fans in the form of Callum Robinson in their opponents’ squad.

Callum Robinson relishing the chance to torment Chelsea again

Even though the forward has only faced the Blues on three occasions, he has scored five goals against them, and has never been on the losing side against them.

He took to social media when the draw was made to hint that he was happy with the draw, and has now admitted to BBC Sport that he was surprised it gained the traction that it did.

“Not many players score that many goals against a team like Chelsea over the years so it’s stuck with me quite a bit throughout my career

“When we got them in the quarters, I was obviously going to put a little bit out there [on social media] for a bit of banter, but I didn’t know I was in people’s heads that much, to be fair.

“I thought they [Chelsea fans] would have forgotten about me a long time ago but, yeah, it’s a good part of football.”

Robinson’s incredible record against Chelsea

Robinson has only scored more goals against Bristol City than Chelsea in his career, however that tally of six has come in 14 games, in comparison to three against the Blues.

Chelsea’s last game against Cardiff was back in 2019

A behind-closed-doors Stamford Bridge witnessed him score three goals in a bizarre 5-2 win for West Brom against the Blues, and he had also scored twice before Chelsea’s three-goal comeback against them earlier in the season.

The season prior, Robinson scored in a 2-2 draw as a Sheffield United player, and he was even an unused substitute for a 1-0 win Aston Villa secured over the Blues more than a decade ago.

Chelsea will be hoping to keep him quiet, even if it is with a rotated backline.
