Why the latest reports about Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate January plan are clearly not true - opinion

There is still a lot of talk, but also uncertainty, surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s future.

Reds fans are probably sick of hearing about Konate’s future as this saga has been dragging on for almost the entire year.

But as we approach 2026, decisions are going to have to be made, but whether that benefits or hinders Liverpool is yet to be seen.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, rumours are only starting to circulate more, with some quite ridiculous claims being made.

The latest in Konate’s situation also cannot be true, because if it is, Liverpool will only be shooting themselves in the foot.

Liverpool said to be willing to let Ibrahima Konate join Inter Milan in January for a cut-price

Plenty of teams have thrown their hat into the ring for Konate, with the two most keen appearing to be Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

However, Inter Milan are now said to be another according to L’Interista, with the Italian outlet claiming that they are keen to make a January move, something Liverpool are contemplating allowing.

They report that around €15m (£13.2m) might be enough to tempt them, a figure that surely cannot be true.

Konate might have just six months left on his contract by January, but he is still worth a lot more than that, with a club of Liverpool’s size simply able to cope without that small transfer fee, suggesting that selling him is a waste of time.

With the lack of options Liverpool have at the back too, made worse by Joe Gomez picking up another injury, they cannot, and will not, allow this to happen, meaning he will likely leave for free or sign a new deal.

As well as keeping hold of everyone they currently have, Liverpool are still in desperate need for reinforcements at the back.

They need at least one ready-made option, with someone like Marc Guehi the perfect candidate.

Whether they can prise him away is another thing, though, but for a decent price, Crystal Palace are the type of club to sell.

Either way, Konate to Inter mid-season simply will not happen, with the only chance of this happening being if they seriously overpay.
