Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has heaped praise on Gabriel Jesus following his ‘brilliant’ cameo against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League last weekend.
After sustaining a serious knee injury at the beginning of this year, the Brazilian was out for almost 11 months before returning against Club Brugge in the Champions League last week.
His Premier League return came against Wolves on Saturday when he replaced Gyokeres in the second half. He looked bright when introduced and helped his side win the game 2-1.
Speaking on Premier League production(via Metro) after the game, Ramsey said that Jesus had to go through a lot of work behind the scenes to return to playing football after such a serious injury.
It is really challenging mentally, and the work is now paying off. It’s good to see him back and ‘he has so much quality’, the forward was even ‘brilliant’ vs Rob Edwards’ side when he came on.
Ramsey said:
“Brilliant[Jesus’ cameo vs Wolves]. I know probably the amount of work that he had to put in to get back to where he is now. All the repetitions in the gym, mentally really challenging. The hard work is paying off. It’s great to see him back. He has so much quality.”
Pundit lauds Jesus
After moving to the Emirates Stadium from Manchester City, Jesus showcased his qualities at first. However, injury problems have ruined his time at North London.
After purchasing Viktor Gyokeres last summer, Arsenal currently have the Swede alongside the Brazilian and Kai Havertz as options to deploy in the centre-forward position.
However, like Jesus, Havertz has been struggling with fitness problems. On the other hand, Gyokeres has found it difficult to showcase his best in the Premier League thus far this season. As a result, Arteta has even used Mikel Merino as an auxiliary striker in recent matches amid Gyokeres’ injury absence.
Meanwhile, following the victory over Wolves, Arsenal maintain their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, accumulating 36 points from 16 matches. The Gunners have a rare midweek break before taking on Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the Premier League next weekend.
