The January transfer window is just over two weeks away, and Premier League clubs are starting to prepare. No player has attracted more attention this winter than Mohamed Salah, whose explosive interview has cast doubt over his Liverpool future.
After talks with Arne Slot, Salah returned to the team and provided an assist in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday, though it could be his final appearance at Anfield. Clubs from the Saudi Pro League and the Major League Soccer are reportedly monitoring the Egypt captain while he competes at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Jamie Carragher has urged Salah to see out the season with Liverpool. The former defender criticised Salah for his post-match comments following the 3-3 draw with Leeds United, in which Salah claimed the club had “thrown him under the bus” and hinted he might have played his last game for the Reds. Despite his strong critique, Carragher explained why he believes Salah should finish the season at Anfield.
Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football: “I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season. The big thing in my mind is, are we going to see Mo Salah from now until the end of the season? If he’s thinking of moving on, I would urge him to think again. And the reason I say that is, if Mo Salah is to move from Liverpool now, the talk is he would go to the Saudi League.
“Liverpool in the second half of the season could get to the FA Cup final, the Champions League final. Can you imagine Mo Salah in Saudi watching Liverpool come out in Budapest in the Champions League final?” He (Salah) deserves a guard of honour, he deserves a mosaic in the Kop.
“He deserves to bring his wife and kids on the pitch in his last game and actually celebrate him for what he’s done as a Liverpool player. So put your differences with the manager aside for four months and get this great big send-off.”
