'Going to do it again': Jamie Carragher has some more advice for Mo Salah and his agents after Liverpool return

Jamie Carragher’s war of words with Mohamed Salah has entertained, aggrieved and enticed the Liverpool fanbase over the past 10 days.

As one of the biggest-name pundits in the country – and a Reds legend to boot – Carragher was always going to have his say on Salah’s explosive interview in the bowels of Elland Road.

Clearly, the Scouser was not a fan of what he saw as Salah ‘throwing Liverpool under the bus’ and made sure the Egyptian knew that in no uncertain terms.

One week later and with Salah having since returned to the Liverpool squad, Carragher gave a more reasoned take on Sky Sports’ latest edition of Monday Night Football.

Addressing the Liverpool No. 11 and his agents directly, the pundit offered some transfer advice which Salah could really do with taking.

Jamie Carragher urges Mo Salah to stay at Liverpool

After their recent barbed words, many Liverpool supporters have wrongly decided that Carragher simply has it in for Salah.

This is highly unlikely to be the truth, with the former centre-back simply a passionate defender of his hometown club.

Carragher showed that once again on Monday, claiming that if Salah jumps ship and heads to Saudi in January he could be turning his back on a potentially special second half of the season with Liverpool.

“I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season,” he said. “The big thing in my mind is are we going to see Mo Salah from now until the end of the season. We know he’s going to AFCON, that will finish in mid-January. It’s obvious he has an issue with the manager.

“Last week I was giving advice to Mo Salah and his agents, and I’m going to do it again because what we saw at the end of the game was a lap of appreciation, a little bit emotional with the Kop there, he’s probably not sure himself if that’s his last time at Anfield. But if he’s thinking about moving on I would urge him to think again.”

“The reason I say this is if Mo Salah were to move on from Liverpool now, the talk is he would go to the Saudi league, which is talked about over there but probably nowhere else except when there’s transfer windows open. He’s not going to leave Liverpool for Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“Now, Liverpool in the second half of the season could get to an FA Cup final, they could get to a Champions League final. Can you imagine Mo Salah in Saudi playing for whatever team he’s playing for, watching Liverpool come out in Budapest for a Champions League final.”

Salah can still make history with Liverpool

If Salah and his representatives are analysing this from an emotionless point of view, leaving Liverpool next mid-season makes little to no sense at all.

As Carragher says, it is clear that he has taken a disliking to Arne Slot, but that does not mean he needs to explode a potentially good thing.

Liverpool have been poor this season, but they have still managed to beat some top teams in the Champions League. If things do click for them, they should be one of the favourites to win the competition.

For Salah, that would be the absolute perfect way to bow out of Liverpool. It may not happen, but if he decides to leave next month, he will take away the possibility altogether.

Perhaps it is time to listen to Carragher.
