Jamie Carragher has warned Mohamed Salah that he will regret his decision if he leaves Liverpool in the January transfer window. Salah has waved goodbye to Merseyside, but only to play for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, and there is speculation he could leave for Saudi Arabia or the MLS in the New Year.
Salah was welcomed back into the fold by Arne Slot for the 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday, a week after he accused his manager of throwing him under the bus. Slot has tried to sweep the issue under the carpet, but Salah will have plenty of time to think about his future while away on international duty.
There is concrete interest from the Saudi Pro League, as well as the MLS, ahead of the January transfer window opening for business. And the way Salah waved to the Anfield crowd after providing an assist against Brighton to reach a record 277 Premier League goal involvements for Liverpool had Carragher wondering.
“I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season," he said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football programme before pleading with Salah and his agent to at least make it until the end of the season before leaving.
"What we see there (after the Brighton win) is nicer than what we saw at Elland Road. But does Mo Salah deserve more than that, as a Liverpool player? He deserves a guard of honour.
"He deserves a mosaic in the Kop. He deserves to bring his family, his wife and his kids onto the pitch after his last game and actually be celebrated for what he's done as a Liverpool player.
"So put your differences with the manager aside and just think three or four months at Liverpool. OK, the worst thing that's going to happen is I get this big send off. The best thing that's going to happen is I'm walking out with my teammates in Budapest for the Champions League final. And if he was sat in Saudi Arabia, watching Liverpool do that, I think he'd really regret it."
Carragher has been at the centre of the Salah vs Slot row, having criticised the 33-year-old for deciding to go public with his frustrations over the recent lack of game time. He has previously made it clear that, while he disagrees with Salah's comments at Elland Road, he is certain of Salah's status at Liverpool.

"Even though I have been furious about what he said last weekend, it would be an absolute travesty if that interview is remembered as his last meaningful act for Liverpool," he wrote for the Telegraph.
"He has done too much for the club for that to be so. He owes it to himself to make sure he is afforded a farewell fit for a legend – whenever that might be. If that means he has to apologise, so be it."
