The Hawks have waived forward Jacob Toppin, who was on a two-way contract, according to the official transaction log at NBA.com (hat tip to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype).
The news is obviously unfortunate for Toppin but not surprising. The 25-year-old underwent season-ending right shoulder surgery last Monday to repair a torn labrum he suffered in a G League game with the College Park Skyhawks.
All two-way deals are non-guaranteed until the league-wide guarantee date of January 10 (the last day to waive a non-guaranteed salary before it becomes guaranteed is January 7). Two-way contracts also don’t count against the salary cap.
