Key Points
The Minnesota Timberwolves have had a strong start to the season as they currently sit sixth in the Western Conference standings with a 17-9 record.
Of course, the Timberwolves have reached the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two seasons and they are looking to make a run at the NBA Finals this season behind their core of Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert.

While Minnesota has had a strong start to the season, it has been reported that they are looking to make some upgrades to their roster ahead of the trade deadline, primarily at the point guard position.
The Timberwolves have been starting Donte DiVincenzo as their point guard while Mike Conley, Bones Hyland and Rob Dillingham have all contributed off the bench but it appears as though they are looking to make a splash by adding a new starting point guard to their roster and it could possibly be another star player.
Timberwolves Could Show Interest in Grizzlies’ Ja Morant
One point guard that continues to be linked to the Timberwolves is Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant as many around the NBA believe that Memphis may be open to moving him ahead of the trade deadline.

If that is the case, Morant could become a key target for Minnesota before the trade deadline as he could fill their void at the point guard position to help them try and make a run at a title this season.

In a potential trade, the Timberwolves could send a package of Naz Reid, Conley DiVincenzo and draft capital to the Grizzlies in exchange for Morant.

Of course, it would be a tough decision for Minnesota to move on from these players, especially Reid, though it is likely that they would have to include either Reid or Jayden McDaniels in a potential trade due to salary reasons.
For Morant, he would provide the Timberwolves with a reliable scorer and playmaker in the backcourt alongside Edwards, giving Minnesota possibly one of the top backcourt duos in the NBA.

This season, the 26-year-old guard is averaging 18.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game while shooting 35.8% from the field and 18.5% from three.
It has not been the best season statistically for Morant as he has struggled at times this season in the 13 games he has played and he has also dealt with multiple injuries and a suspension earlier in the year.
Despite this, a change of scenery may be what the young guard needs at this point in his career and if he is able to turn things around, he could become a key piece for the Timberwolves if they were to make this trade.

While this trade could work out well for Minnesota, they may be unwilling to give up this much in a potential deal for Morant, especially with his injury history and off-court issues.
If that is the case, the Timberwolves may look elsewhere to upgrade their point guard position to bolster their roster to make a run at a championship this season.
