Rangers 1-0 Hibs - Mark Atkinson at Ibrox
The latest transfer rumours from Rangers ahead of the January window opening.
Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has placed talented Tromso youngster Jens Hjerto-Dahl at the top of his January transfer wish list as he looks to revamp his Ibrox midfield next month.
According to reports, the 20-year-old has been watched closely by club scouts in recent months, and they have been left impressed by the imposing 6ft 4in midfielder’s performances for his hometown side, where he has already played close to 100 senior games in the Norwegian top flight despite his tender years.
Likened to Arsenal captain and fellow countryman Martin Odegaard due to his on-pitch maturity and ability to dictate from the middle of the pitch, the starlet was linked with a move to Brighton and Sunderland as recently as last month, with English Premier League outfits said to also be keeping a close eye on the player after an impressive season in the Eliteserien.

Dubbed a “future leader” by former Norway under-18 head coach Luís Pimenta, he has represented his national team at various youth levels and was named as one of the 100 best players under the age of 20 by CIES Football Observatory last year after the Tromso academy product burst onto the scene during the 2022/23 season as a teenager.
Reports say Rohl views Hjerto-Dahl as a key addition as he looks to revamp his midfield during the January window, with the German boss hoping an offer of around £4.5million will secure a deal for the player, who has eight goal contributions in 30 league games this season.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ Joe Rothwell is likely to cut short his ill-fated spell at Ibrox, with a number of EFL Championship clubs eyeing a move for the midfielder. The 30-year-old signed for the club on a free transfer in the summer following the expiration of his contract at AFC Bournemouth, but has failed to impress in Govan and has barely featured following the sacking of Russell Martin in October.

Despite his underwhelming time at Rangers, the Manchester-born midfielder maintains a strong reputation in the English second tier, having won promotion with Leeds United and Southampton in recent years, and will be allowed to move back across the border when the January transfer window opens.
