Atlético Madrid have Manchester City’s Nathan Aké in their wish list for the winter market, according to El Desmarque.
The Netherlands international has lost prominence this season, starting just once in each of the Premier League and Champions League.
Last month, Oranje manger Ronald Koeman said the defender is bothered by his limited role under Pep Guardiola. The national team boss warned Aké could miss out on the World Cup without regular minutes.
Journalist Nacho Donado has told El Desmarque’s ElDesmarket that Atlético are looking for a new left-back in January.
He claims Los Rojiblancos are targeting players currently struggling for minutes and intend to go to the World Cup. This is where Aké comes into the picture as he can operate both as a centre-back and a left-back.
El Desmarque claim Donado has named left-backs who are on ‘Atlético’s wish list’ and only the Manchester City player gets a mention.
“He can also play centre-back. He’s one of the difficult ones to sign, but he’s the one I would bring in. It’s Nathan Aké from Manchester City. He’s a starter for the Netherlands, but he doesn’t play much for City. He fits in with everything, and his contract expires next year [2027],” he said.
According to El Desmarque, the 30-year-old’s contract situation ‘could be the key’ in the negotiations as Guardiola’s side may be open to discussing his sale.
