Aston Villa are back in Premier League action on Sunday with a home clash against Manchester United

They beat West Ham 3-2 last time out at the London Stadium. Morgan Rogers managed to get on the scoresheet twice against the Hammers, whilst Konstantinos Mavropanos scored an own goal. Next up is a home clash against Manchester United on Sunday as they look to keep their momentum going for as long as possible over the course of the festive period.

Manchester United woes ahead of Aston Villa clash

Manchester United have a few selection issues to deal with ahead of their trip to Aston Villa this weekend. Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui won’t be able to play as they are all off to AFCON with their respective countries. Meanwhile, Casemiro is suspended after picking up too many yellow cards.

In terms of injury woes, defensive pair Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt are sidelined for the Red Devils. They aren’t expected back against Emery’s men either. Striker Benjamin Sesko is fit though and came off the bench in their last outing against AFC Bournemouth.

United drew 4-4 against the Cherries on Monday night in a dramatic game at Old Trafford. Amad, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha got their goals. Speaking afterwards, Amorim said: “It's really disappointing. We are really disappointed. Crazy game. It might look like we lost the two points in the second half but I think we lost them in the first half. We dominated and created so many chances. We had to go to half-time with a different result. In the end we deserved more.

“It was a fun game for everyone at home. I think we started really well. We did a very good first half. The result should be completely different. And then, again, I think six minutes into the second half, similar to Nottingham [Forest], we lost the concentration and they scored two goals, but we managed to get back into the game.”

What should Aston Villa expect from Manchester United?

United have threats at the top end of the pitch and have proved that they have no problems scoring goals. They leak them at the other end though which has been their downfall recently. The Red Devils lack consistency and with the added fact that Amad, Mbeumo, Mazraoui, Casemiro, Maguire and De Ligt are unavailable, they could be up against it at Aston Villa.

Emery’s side will have to be at their best to get something but will surely fancy their chances, especially after their eye-catching performances of late. Villa are finding ways to win games and are keeping up with Arsenal and Manchester City. Their supporters are dreaming of a title charge and with a couple of new faces in the upcoming January transfer window, especially at the top end of the pitch, there is no reason why they can’t.
