Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro talked to Sky and shared his thoughts on former Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso’s current situation with Real Madrid.
“We know that he is a coach with enormous talent who, however, finds himself in a different context in Madrid. If the president says that a coach is a necessary evil, if the coach is left alone and he is always the one who receives the criticism, then the situation is very different from what he experienced in Leverkusen, where we all pulled in the same direction and did not leave the coach alone politically,” said Carro.
Carro still has a good relationship with Alonso and even revealed that he spent some time with the Spanish coach during the past FIFA break.
“During the international break, I spent a weekend in Madrid and the coaching staff and family came to our house twice. We have a very good relationship; after all, during those three years we were like a family,“ he added.
