Louis Zecevic John made just his fourth appearance of an injury-ravaged first half of the season last night but the talented forward provided a reminder of what he is capable of.

Zecevic John, who can play as a central striker or out wide, missed the start of the campaign through injury and then suffered another problem after a brief return to action in the UEFA Youth League.

The 17-year-old will hope that his injury problems are finally behind him and he seemed to be playing with much confidence last night as Arsenal U18s comfortably dispatched of Mansfield Town with a 4-1 victory in the FA Youth Cup.

Zecevic John scored his first goal of the season and also won the penalty from which Maalik Hashi found the net.

With his excellent close control, Serbia youth international Zecevic John has earned a reputation for being one of the standout prospects in the Arsenal academy.

He certainly seems to enjoy playing in the Youth Cup – he scored against QPR in the fourth round of the competition last season.

Owing to his injury struggles Zecevic John has yet to make his competitive debut for Arsenal U21s, although he did feature prominently in that position during pre-season.

Provided that he stays fit, he could have a significant part to play for both the U21s and the U18s in the second half of the campaign.
