Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will not play for the club until around mid-January as he travels to AFCON with Egypt

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah returned to the pitch last weekend, a week after his bombshell interview in the wake of the 3-3 draw with Leeds United.

He was left behind as Liverpool travelled to play Inter Milan at the San Siro last week but was back in the squad as Slot’s side won 2-0 at home to Brighton and Hove Albion. Salah came off the bench and bagged an assist.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Salah’s future and has insisted one league he will not be moving to is Serie A - as no club in Italy would be able to afford his wages.

The Liverpool legend is under contract until the summer of 2027 and is the Reds’ highest-paid player after agreeing bigger wages when signing his latest deal.

“Since then it was a bit fixed, adjusted during the last few days, an assist against Brighton and a return to the pitch. But today guys, regardless of what will happen in the next few weeks, whether Salah goes away from Liverpool or not, it seems to me that a Salah move to Italy is pure science fiction.

“So today no Italian club has even called for Salah, because everyone knows that his salary is completely out of reach, that Salah should move, he would have very important proposals from Saudi.

“It will depend on what will happen to the contacts between his agent and Liverpool in the next few weeks. So today, for Salah a return to Italy - after experiences first at Fiorentina and then at Roma - does not turn out to be a credible scenario. So let's avoid selling dreams and leave aside the name of Mo Salah.”

Salah moved to Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017. He scored 34 goals and provided 21 assists in 83 games for Roma and since moving to Anfield, he has played 421 times for the Reds with 250 goals and 117 assists.
