Aaron Ramsey has revealed that Mexican side Pumas terminated his contract in the midst of his dog's disappearance in San Miguel de Allende.

The former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder, now 34, swapped the Championship for Liga MX last summer in a move which was met by much fanfare in the Latin country.

However the transfer was ultimately a huge disappointment, with Ramsey making a mere six appearances before his beloved family dog Halo went missing from a ranch in October.

The Welsh captain offered a £20,000 reward for information about the pet's whereabouts, but to no avail. 'What I'd do to hold you on more time,' the Cardiff City academy product wrote in a heartbreaking Instagram post a few weeks later.

It was announced in late-October that Ramsey had left the Mexican side, with many speculating that he had chosen to rip up his contract to return to Wales amid the heartache his family experienced in North America.

But now the midfielder has broken his silence, revealing that he was 'surprised and disappointed' that Pumas actually chose to terminate his contract.

Taking to Instagram on Monday evening, Ramsey wrote: 'I would like to thank the Mexican people for their kindness and generosity and making me and my family feel so welcome in Mexico City.

'I also want to give a big thanks to the manager, the coaching staff and particularly the medical staff for helping me through what was a difficult time with injuries.

'However with their help and a lot of hard work I was ready and match fit for the remaining games and I was looking forward to giving my best to the Pumas.

'Unfortunately my contract was terminated which was a surprise and obviously disappointing. Therefore I had no choice but to come home to Wales. Thank you again for all the support through the time we spent in Mexico. It’s a beautiful place and we will definitely come back to visit soon.'

Where Ramsey's future lies remains to be seen, but it's thought the midfielder is keen to prolong his playing career until next summer's World Cup, though Wales have yet to seal their qualification for the tournament.

Craig Bellamy's side face a play-off against Bosnia and Herzegovina which, if they win, would set up a clash versus either Italy or Northern Ireland for a place in the World Cup.

Ramsey however hasn't ruled out a move into coaching and was actually part of Bellamy's staff for Wales's qualifiers in November. He also took charge of the final three games of Cardiff's relegation season last term.

Asked about a possible future in coaching, he told TalkSport: 'Yes, absolutely. That's a route that I never thought I'd take, but definitely in the last few years I've done my badges, I'm on the Pro (License Course) at the moment.

Speaking to reporters in November, he didn't turn the possibility of a move into coaching

'It's something that I really enjoy doing with Cardiff Under-18s at the beginning of that and then obviously I took charge of Cardiff for the last three games which was really good, a great experience.

'I went with Wales last week and that’s a real good insight into everything that goes on behind the scenes. The hours and the effort and detail that goes into those things and preparing the boys to go into those things to execute a gameplan.

'But it’s addictive, so I definitely see myself going into that space.'
