Opinion: Chelsea can save their season by listening to John Terry's latest transfer advice

Chelsea fans are beginning to get a little fed up of their flamboyant transfer spending seeing them not really get any closer to becoming genuine Premier League title contenders.

The Blues have gone from an unbeaten November, including games against Tottenham, Barcelona and Arsenal, to now having just put an end to a four-game winless run to start December.

The manner of some of their poor results has exposed a big issue in the Chelsea first team squad. Defeat at Leeds United made it clear they struggled with the hostile atmosphere of a traditionally big game.

John Terry had warned the Blues of the Elland Road atmosphere, and questioned whether they had the experience in their side to deal with those scenarios.

John Terry tells Chelsea to sign Thiago Silva

They could certainly address this with the signing of someone like Thiago Silva, who has made it clear he wants a return to Europe after his spell at Fluminense.

Terry has pushed the Blues to bring the Brazilian back to the club. Despite now being in his 40s, the club legend believes his experience would be crucial for the current squad.

He said on his TikTok: “I’d just like to add, Thiago Silva is available. Listen to me, a man with great experience, a man with a great relationship with our football club. His two kids are in our academy. No doubt he’s gonna be back in London with his family over Christmas. I would love to see this man back at our football club.

“Playing with these players. Now, I’m not saying he has to play every week, but just the experience he can bring, playing alongside someone like that, probably goes back to my role under Antonio Conte back in 2017, when we won the league.

“I didn’t play, but I had a role to play within the group. Be that buffer between the players, the managers, the owners, and have that bit of experience.”

Why Thiago Silva would be the perfect signing for Chelsea

Silva would certainly not be a signing to insert into the starting XI every week. However, with Levi Colwill missing, the Blues have found themselves short of options at times at the back.

There is no recognised leadership figure in the club. Tosin Adarabioyo is the oldest outfield player at the age of 28.

Terry played less than 500 Premier League minutes in the 2016/17 season he is referring to, however his crucial role behind the scenes was a key reason why they went on to the Premier League.

While Silva would likely not be able to get the Blues to these heights within a season, the fact that he has already featured alongside a number of the current first team squad would certainly be very helpful.
