West Ham lost 3-2 to Aston Villa and will be desperate to turn their fortunes around as they are expected to be relegated from the Premier League.

Premier League announce officials for Manchester City vs West Ham

The Premier League have made an announcement about all the officials in the 10 Matchweek 17 fixtures.

For the game at the Etihad, Paul Tierney has been given the responsibility to call the game down the middle.

His two assistants for the clash are Richard West and Marc Perry, who will run the line on Saturday afternoon.

Lewis Smith will be the fourth official and will have to deal with Nuno and Guardiola, both of whom can be fiery on the touchline.

Alex Chilowicz is named the main VAR and Dan Robathan will be the assistant VAR for the contest.

West Ham fans will surely not be pleased with Tierney’s decision-making

West Ham fans will undoubtedly remember the game against Brighton at the London Stadium in December 2024.

The match ended 1-1, but Hammers supporters may argue that they would have won the game had it not been for Tierney.

Tierney was the VAR for that game and failed to act on what looked like an obvious red card.

Pervis Estupinan, who was the Brighton left-back, fouled Max Kilman and was only given a yellow card.

However, he lunged into the West Ham defender with both feet, which meant he was out of control when he collided with Kilman’s shin.

Under the current laws, that counts as serious foul play and not only should Tierney have asked the on-field referee to take another look at the monitor, but also should have urged him to send off the Seagulls defender.

Fans will be hoping that he does not potentially make any more controversial decisions, as he will be the on-field referee and most of his calls are not going to be under the jurisdiction of VAR.
