Player has surgery delay ahead of joining Chelsea–Travelling to London at weekend

Geovany Quenda’s medical situation is in the spotlight in Portugal, months ahead of him joining Chelsea.A Bolareported a change of plans regarding the winger’s surgery.

The 18-year-old was due to travel to London earlier this week to undergo surgery on a fracture to the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. However, those plans were delayed due to bureaucratic issues linked to the trip to England. As a result, the procedure has now been rescheduled for next Monday.

According to the Portuguese newspaper, Quenda is now expected to travel on Sunday, ahead of the operation in London the following day. The injury was sustained during Sporting’s derby against Benfica. The club is expected to sideline him for around two months once surgery is completed.

Despite the procedure taking place in England, the recovery process will be carried out in Alcochete, Sporting’s training centre. The decision followed contacts between Sporting and Chelsea.

Even so, Chelsea remain closely involved in key moments of his development, including medical decisions. They continue to monitor his progress ahead of his arrival in London, scheduled to happen in June 2026.
