Raptors could trade for Mavericks big man, but it's not Anthony Davis

The Toronto Raptors are exploring trades to add depth behind Jakob Poeltl, with Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford and Orlando's Goga Bitadze among their potential targets.

The Toronto Raptors are reportedly interested in trading for Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford, according to TSN reporter Josh Lewenberg. The team has "already checked in on" the 27-year-old big man.

While the Raptors have also been linked to Anthony Davis, a trade for the 10-time NBA All-Star appears unlikely, and there hasn't been significant interest in AD so far.

Lewenberg noted that Toronto isn't looking to replace starting center Jakob Poeltl, but rather to add size and depth behind him. Another potential trade target mentioned in the report is Orlando Magic center Goga Bitadze.

The Raptors currently have a surplus of wings, making players like Ochai Agbaji and Gradey Dick possible trade candidates. They also have all of their draft picks available as assets for a "bigger" deal.

Gafford, who signed a contract extension with the Mavs this offseason, is averaging 8.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season. He is making $14.4 million this year.

Drafted 38th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls, Gafford has career averages of 9.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game across stints with the Bulls, Washington Wizards, and Mavericks.
