Report: Liverpool have now entered race to sign 'the Premier League's best wing-back'

Liverpool are showing an interest in signing Crystal Palace wing-back Daniel Munoz ahead of 2026, according to a report from CaughtOffside.

The Reds have endured a difficult start to the season, so it certainly wouldn't be a surprise to see them try to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window. On the other hand, Liverpool spent significantly in the summer, with a host of their new additions not working out so far, so they'll have to be careful with their recruitment in the winter.

The right-hand side of defence has been an issue for the Merseyside outfit. Dominik Szoboszlai has been utilised as a makeshift right-back at times, with Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley suffering injury problems, while Trent Alexander-Arnold departed in the summer.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool have now entered the race to sign Crystal Palace wing-back Munoz, viewing him as a versatile option to provide competition for Frimpong. The Eagles have no intention of offloading Munoz, and they've made it clear that he won't be sold during the January transfer window.

Munoz, described as 'the Premier League's best wing-back' by Sky Sports writer Nick Wright, is a similar profile to Frimpong in that he loves to get forward and make an impact in the final third. It would be a rare signing of an ageing player for Liverpool, with the Colombian international turning 30 later in the season.

Centre-Back the Bigger Issue for Liverpool

When everyone is fit, Liverpool do have plenty of options at right-back, so the signing of Munoz might be a little overkill. The Palace star is also more suited to playing in a five-at-the-back system, with less emphasis on defending, as he's often inside the opposition half.

Arguably, the bigger issue for Liverpool at the moment is in the middle of defence. Ibrahima Konate hasn't hit the heights expected of him this season, and Liverpool currently have a lack of alternative options in this position. If it's a choice between bringing in a new right-back and signing a new central defender, then the Merseyside club should be prioritising a move to sign the latter in the January transfer window.
