Liverpool have a rare free week, but talk around the club continues to be dominated by Mohamed Salah. The winger is now at the Africa Cup of Nations after returning to the squad for the win over Brighton. Despite Friday’s successful talks with Arne Slot, his future remains uncertain, with discussions ongoing between his representatives and the club.
Liverpool may already be exploring potential replacements, with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo among the names linked. Semenyo, who scored in Monday’s 4-4 draw at Old Trafford, has a £65m release clause activating on January 1. The Ghana international, who has netted 29 goals in over 100 appearances for the Cherries, is attracting interest from several top Premier League sides, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool.
The Premier League champions have already held positive talks with Bournemouth over a possible move for Semenyo. Man United head coach Ruben Amorim called Semenyo a “special player” ahead of Monday’s 4-4 draw with Bournemouth at Old Trafford. Amorim told Sky Sports: “They have a special player. They have many good players, but they have a special player in Semenyo. [He] can play both sides with both feet. I think there is a lot of special players in the league. What I feel is that it’s to summarise the top manager, top team. I really like the team and the top player. I think he is a special player.”
Semenyo has been one of the Premier League’s standout attackers this season, recording seven goals and three assists for Bournemouth. United showed strong interest in Semenyo over the summer but ultimately signed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha instead. According to The Independent, United are ready to pursue Semenyo in January if rival clubs make a move.
The Red Devils see a strong chance of securing his signature and are planning for a high-spending summer, but are prepared to act sooner if needed. Semenyo’s tactical versatility has caught the eye of manager Ruben Amorim and the club hierarchy, who see him fitting well into their system. While primarily a forward, United envision him as an attacking wing-back, paired with Amad Diallo on the opposite flank. The Ghanaian is open to the move as he considers his future.
