As trade season heats up around the NBA, it’s natural that contending teams will look towards the Sacramento Kings as a potential partner–but could Domantas Sabonis be on the move?
While it has been widely speculated and reported that Sabonis is being patient as the Kings and first-year general manager Scott Perry carve out the best path forward, it hasn’t stopped teams from kicking the tires on a potential deal for the All-NBA big.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Toronto Raptors are interested in acquiring a big man to bolster their chances of contending in the Eastern Conference.
Toronto, which has been one of the early-season surprises, currently holds a record of 16-11, placing them within the top-three teams in the East.
Among those whom the Raptors are eying on the trade market, Fischer’s sources have identified Domantas Sabonis and Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis as two players who fit what they are searching for:
The business Toronto is ultimately willing to conduct before the February trade buzzer will likely come down to how good the 16-11 Raptors still are as that deadline draws closer. Toronto, though, has sent out some early signals that it hopes to upgrade its frontcourt. Sources with knowledge of the Raptors’ thinking have identified them as a team with interest in Domantas Sabonis as well as Anthony Davis.

More on Domantas Sabonis
If the Kings are going to move Domantas Sabonis, they will have to find a trade partner willing to acquire the remaining three years and $97.6 million on his deal, which runs through the 2027-28 season.
Sabonis, 29, is arguably the best rebounder in the NBA, having secured the past three league rebounding titles, averaging 19.2 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game from 2022-25.
Before suffering a left knee meniscus injury in late November, the three-time All-Star was averaging 17.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game on 51 percent shooting from the field over 11 appearances.
Toronto’s interest in Sabonis makes sense when you factor in their struggles on the glass. Entering play on December 17th, Toronto ranks 23rd in total rebounds, 22nd in defensive rebounds, and 21st in offensive rebounds.
While players like Brandon Ingram and Scottie Barnes have elevated the Raptors into a surprise team in the East, adding a frontcourt staple could lift them from surprise to contender. Sabonis’ rebounding or Davis’ two-way contributions would certainly help make that a possibility.
As for matching salary, Toronto has guard Immanuel Quickley ($32 million), forward RJ Barrett ($27 million), and center Jakob Poeltl ($19 million) as returning options in a potential deal.
It’s expected that Domantas Sabonis will remain in Sacramento for the foreseeable future, but anything is possible when it comes to NBA deals, especially during trade season.

The time has finally arrived for the Sacramento Kings.
It says December 16th on the calendar, which means 82 players who signed over the summer became eligible for trade on Monday, the 15th.
Another note to keep in mind is that Dec. 16 is the deadline for a player to be traded and have their salary aggregated in another trade by Feb. 5, which could lead to more movement within the next 48 hours for teams that may want to see how something fits or looks, but have time to move off of it.
So what does that mean for the Sacramento Kings?
We have been told this thing will take time and that they will be “patient and prudent”, but what exactly does that mean?
Here’s a look at what Allen Stiles has been hearing in regards to the “other” Sacramento Kings players, who haven’t been talked about ad nauseam like the usual suspects since this Frankenstein roster was created.
