Steph Curry is clearly still capable of carrying the Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga has fallen out of the rotation, and Golden State has a glut of guards competing for minutes.
All of that was true when the Warriors upset the Rockets in the first round of the NBA playoffs in a seven-game series in May, but this season, Steve Kerr’s team has a different outlook.
At 13-14, the Warriors are under .500 as their role players haven’t been able to pick up the slack when Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green have missed time. Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Moses Moody all suggested they were up for the challenge during Warriors training camp, but Golden State’s depth hasn’t passed many tests this season.
With Kuminga set to become trade-eligible on Jan. 15 and the NBA trade deadline looming on Feb. 4, The Standard’s Danny Emerman joined Section 415 to discuss the urgency Golden State’s front office faces as it looks to give Curry a supporting cast fit to make a deep postseason run.
