December 17 – Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E), owner of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, has announced new investment from UY Holdings as a new ‘strategic partner’ in its USL Championship clubs San Antonio FC.
“We are thrilled to welcome UY Holdings as a partner in SAFC,” said SS&E CEO RC Buford. “Their belief in what we’re doing here in San Antonio is a tribute to the domestic and international success that SAFC has enjoyed over the past decade. Leveraging a partner with the international knowledge and success that UY Holdings enjoys will position SAFC to thrive for years to come.”
No value was given for the investment.
UY Holdings is owned by Philippine businessman Dennis Uy and has a diverse investment portfolio. In football it owns Uruguay’s Albion FC which has developed a reputation for developing players and selling them internationally. Last season Albion were promoted from the Uruguayan Second Division, to the First division for the 2026 season.
UY Holdings managing partner Charles Coupland (a former Manchester United executive), said: “We have a deep belief that San Antonio FC is positioned to be a leader in the USL and across the international football community. When you combine the club’s existing track record, its top-notch facilities and its location in one of the fastest growing regions of the United States, it’s exciting to think about the future of SAFC.”
Starting their 11th season in the USL in 2026, SAFC won the USL Championship title in 2022 and has made the playoffs in five of the last six seasons.
