Adam Silver suggests 'relief' for Heat amid Terry Rozier gambling probe

The NBA commissioner reiterates that he sympathizes with the Heat and its fan base amid the ongoing Rozier investigation.

In the wake of the ongoing investigation into Terry Rozier, NBA commissioner Adam Silver told reporters Tuesday that the league will determine the possibility of giving the Miami Heat relief consideration.

Position: PG

Age: 31

Height: 188 cm

Weight: 86 kg

Birth place: Ohio, United States of America

Silver acknowledged the difficulties being encountered by the Heat due to Rozier's significant salary cap presence and the uncertainty surrounding the gambling probe by the authorities.

Rozier, along with Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and former NBA veteran Damon Jones, was arrested separately by the FBI last October. The three were allegedly involved in an illegal sports gambling ring that reportedly operated across multiple states.

Recently, Rozier pleaded not guilty to wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy charges for allegedly helping friends win bets on his March 2023 performance against the New Orleans Pelicans when he was still with the Charlotte.

He’s free on a $3M bond, remains on unpaid leave from the Heat, and his next scheduled court date will be a pre-trial hearing in March.

Rozier holds a $26.6 million salary this year for the Heat. When he was acquired by the team from the Hornets last year, Miami had to surrender a protected 2027 first-round asset.

A potential relief, as suggested by Silver, could tremendously help the Heat amid the team's 14-12 season progress. After a hot start, Miami has been recently stumbling with a five-game losing skid.
