LAS VEGAS ([FOX5](http://fox5vegas.com/)) — The New York Knicks won their first championship in 52 years Tuesday night, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 in the NBA Cup championship game at T-Mobile Arena.
The game featured four lead changes and six ties throughout the contest. OG Anunoby led the Knicks with 28 points, while Jalen Brunson added 25 points and earned NBA Cup MVP honors after scoring 40 points in the semifinal round.
NBA expansion discussion

Before tipoff, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the possibility of league expansion, specifically mentioning Las Vegas as a potential market.
“In terms of domestic expansion, that is something we’re continuing to look at. Not a secret we’re looking at this market in Las Vegas,” Silver said.
Silver noted the league’s familiarity with the Las Vegas market through the WNBA Aces, 20 years of summer league games, and NBA Cup games held in the city.
“I don’t have any doubt that Las Vegas despite all the other major league teams that are here now, the other entertainment properties that this city could support an NBA team,” Silver said.
The commissioner said the league is currently gauging interest in bringing a team to Las Vegas and evaluating the economics. A decision will be made sometime in 2026.

The Knicks secured their first trophy since 1973 with the victory over San Antonio. Knicks head coach Mike Brown described the tournament as beneficial for building confidence within the organization.
“It breeds confidence in everybody within the organization and that can propel you come the right time when you’re in that environment to be able to handle the pressure because you’ve already been through it,” Brown said. “The most positive is being able to hang a banner up in MSG, the most iconic arena in the league.”
Tournament format change

Next year, only the championship game will be played in Las Vegas. The semifinal games will be played on the home courts of the highest seeds from each conference.
