“The moment you” – Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink criticises Chelsea attacker for what he did against…

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has criticised Marc Guiu for not taking his chance against Cardiff City.

The Blues advanced to the Carabao Cup semi finals with a 3-1 win over the League One side, but they were made to work hard.

Alejandro Garnacho scored a brace after being introduced as a half time substitute, with Pedro Neto also on the scoresheet.

As expected Enzo Maresca heavily rotated the team as he made 11 changes to the side which beat Everton 2-0 on Saturday.

The changes meant Guiu was handed a rare start upfront, but the Spaniard struggled and didn’t make the most of his opportunity before being replaced at half time.

In an uninspiring first half Guiu had Chelsea’s best opportunity as he was played through by Moises Caciedo, but the teenager hit his shot straight at the goalkeeper.

It was a chance Guiu should have done better with, and Hasselbaink was critical of the forward for making it more difficult for himself.

“He peels off really well, takes a touch but then takes too long,” he told Sky Sports.

“The moment you take that touch, now you need to hit it really quickly, because you’re making that corner smaller and smaller for yourself.”

Chelsea forwards struggled against Cardiff

Facundo Buonanotte, Tyrqiue George and Jamie Gittens completed the front four, but Chelsea’s attack really struggled in the first half.

George was also replaced at half time, whilst Gittens didn’t complete a single successful dribble during his time on the pitch.

After a poor first half Buonanotte did provide an assist after the break, but the fringe players failed to make the most of their chance, and did little to show they should be playing on a more regular basis, and why Maresca appears to lack trust in them.
