Reason why Victor Wembanyama cried in press conference revealed

Victor Wembanyama played through personal tragedy after learning of his grandmother's death, scoring 18 points in a loss to the New York Knicks before breaking down emotionally during his postgame press conference.

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama learned Tuesday morning that his grandmother had passed away in France, according to Jared Weiss of The Athletic.

Despite the tragic news, Wembanyama still played in the NBA Cup Final against the New York Knicks, where the San Antonio Spurs fell 124–113.

Wembanyama was visibly emotional during his postgame press conference, telling reporters, "I'm sorry, I lost somebody today."

After answering just two questions, he left the press room in tears.

On the court, Wemby came off the bench and played 25 minutes, finishing with 18 points, six rebounds, and two blocks in a losing effort for San Antonio.
